Life Lately

It's been forever since I've posted!

Guess that's what happens when you start grad school.

So, here's what we've been up to lately!

  • School: I started grad school, Bryan's doing research equivalent to what he would do in a Masters program (so he can skip a Masters and go straight to a PhD), and we're both feeling slightly overwhelmed. Lol...
    • I love my classes... go to grad school if you get sick of undergrad classes. Pretty much we study lots of the literature in mathematics education research, and then discuss it. I have a class basically introducing us to all the major things going on in the world of math ed research right now, a class where we study in depth calculus, the teaching of calculus, and the research behind it all... and I have a seminar class where we read books and discuss them. We all take turns bringing food and it's a lot of fun and a lot of learning.
    • I'm learning to be a good writer too... it's HARD!

  • Teaching: Bryan's the TA for the research class he took his Freshman year, and I'm teaching three sections of Calculus 2 (Math 113). I have probably 130 students... it's crazy. It's a lot of work but I really enjoy it. (It's paying for my education right now, so I can't complain.

  • BYU FOOTBALL: For my whole life, ever since I was born,  the Fall REVOLVES around BYU Football. I can probably count on one hand the number of home games I've missed in my entire life. Yeah I rock. :) We beat the Crimson Cougars (so ironic) from Washington State last week! Awesome! We're playing Weber today...lol... in one hour...could be kind of a boring game, but that's alright.

  • It was mom's 50th birthday and we got her a pasta maker... I'm slightly jealous now. I'll have to go have a pasta making party with her.

  • Ooof course now that I have 130 students I'm interacting with every day, I caught something from someone. Bluh... I've been pretty sick with a cold for the past few days. No fun.

  •  I watched Hunger Games for the first time last night. I haven't read the books yet, so it was all new to me. My thoughts? Well, I thought the movie was very well made and very effective. I can also say that if I read the books (or watch the movie again, for that matter,) it won't necessarily be for entertainment... it's probably like reading Lord of the Flies... you do it for a psychological workout...not because it's entertaining. I thought this was sort of the same.  But, I really liked it.

  •  Fall is coming, and it's currently 71 degrees outside and climbing very slowly, which is a nice change. :) We survived the hotness of the summer! YAY! :)
  •  I'm taking two classes in the evenings, each once a week. The first is Zumba, which I've never done and which I'm really liking, and the other is called TURBO and holy cow it kicks my TRASH but it's awesome. We'll see how they go this semester!

I can't think of anything else right now...partially because my sinuses are trying to find their way out of my forehead... I'll try to post slightly more regularly as I get into a better routine... until then, adios!

  2. Way to go and be ambitious! That is excellent. I just realized we never had a girls night :( I can't imagine how that didn't fit into your insanely busy schedule ;) lol. I still remember when I was drowning in AP calculus and you came to my house and we worked on my problems on my dad's whiteboard until it all made sense. It was so helpful! I am sure your students are benefiting from your mad teaching skills. And tell Hannah Banana hello for me ;)
