Book Review: Thank You, God, for Blessing me

Thank You, God, for blessing me by Max Lucado, Illustrated by Frank Endersby.

This book is a “Little Hermie” cardboard children’s book for very young children. The story is about Little Hermie, a caterpillar, saying his prayers and thanking God for all the ways that he has been blessed. This book would be especially appropriate for a parent teaching a very young child about prayers and showing gratitude to God.

This book is adorable. Little Hermie is the cutest little guy, and his “grateful prayer” is so cute. The illustrations are simple and adorable. In the book, Hermie thanks God for his bed, his “yummy food”, his eyes and feet, and his friends and family. He asks God for help being kind and obedient. I think this is such a perfect way to let kids see what thankful prayers should be like. Sometimes when adults pray and thank God for things, we don’t remember to thank Him for the small and simple things that kids are so profoundly grateful for. I think as great a resource as this is for teaching children, it’s a wonderful way for parents to become more like their children, and truly thank God for blessing us.
