33 weeks

Hello everybody!

It's been a little while since I've posted anything, and I don't feel very well today so I'm avoiding some of the chores that are on my to do list and doing other things like writing this instead. :)

This picture was taken at 33 weeks.
Your job is to pretend I don't look like it's 10 pm like it actually was (e.g., zombie eyes lol).

How far along: 33 3/7 weeks today (Monday).

Sidenote-- can I just tell you that I really love that at the doctor's office they write how far along you are using fractions? "31 and a half" or whatever just doesn't make as much sense as using the beautifully natural sevenths that weeks are divided into. Yes, I am a math teacher ha ha.

Symptoms: Sciatica as bad as ever unfortunately. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so I mostly just deal with it. I try to do all the good stretches and everything but sometimes you just have to deal with it.

In other symptoms, my nausea is back... it's not nearly as bad as it was the first while (til week 18? lol) but I've puked a few times in the past week or so and once in a while have a hard time with food. The other day we were going up to Orem for my sister's homecoming talk and my breakfast decided it didn't want to make the trip... so I veered into the stadium parking lot and left my breakfast in the bushes. Good times.

I've also had some troubles with swelling lately... usually it's just when I'm out in the heat or at the end of the day...but it's getting harder to wear my wedding ring without it getting stuck mid-day.

Picking up Michelle from the airport.

Sleep: Gratefully, I haven't had troubles sleeping. I wake up to go to the bathroom once a night usually, but I sleep long and hard. The latest development is that I feel like I need far more sleep than is reasonable lol. It also takes me a little while to fall asleep some nights when the baby decides that it's time for his kickboxing session. It sort of feels like laying stomach-down on one of those electric massaging chairs lol. Hard to sleep through? A little.

Exercise and being healthy and all that: Same ol', same ol'. Although I'm supposed to be gaining a bit more weight and (for the first time in my life) it's been really hard! So, I eat a bit more ice cream, a bit more chocolate milk, a few more snacks during the day... all that. It's hard to make that all work when my stomach is the size of a walnut but what do you do.

Baby listening to his first BYU football game (the UConn game). If how much he moves around during the games is any indication of anything, he will be an avid BYU sports fan. :)
PS, I had no idea what to do with my hands in that picture...hence the awkward double thumbs up thing.

Movement: Holy cow, does this kid move. Bryan says my belly looks like a water balloon full of marbles being pushed down the stairs... so there's that awkward picture. About this time in pregnancy is when the volume of amniotic fluid peaks, and it's also where the baby is pretty close to full length and is just putting on lots of weight... all those things combined means that he's getting bigger and stronger and I can feel every little (and giant) movement. It creeps Bryan out once in a while. :)

Size: My size? Giant. ha ha jk. Although I am getting some lovely stretch marks around my belly button area. I guess that's what happens when you torpedo straight out front instead of other places. The baby is most likely around 19 inches and a bit more than 5 lbs.

It's really weird to think about that because some babies are born at that size. Weird! It's interesting to think about that too because he's "big enough" (to some standards), but right around now is when he starts developing his own immune system, and when his lungs start the final maturation. So he's "getting big enough", but he's not ripe :).

He also seems to be moving down a bit. Bryan noticed it a bit, and my lungs and ribs are eternally grateful for it. :) My ribs are starting to heal a little bit (I would not be surprised at all if they were fractured or something) and I feel like I can get a bit more air when I breathe. Of course there are other repercussions of the migration downward, but we'll leave those for another day. ;)

Pop quiz: how many times did I say "bit" in the previous paragraph. Don't peek! (I need to expand my vocabulary apparently.)

This is an outfit a friend in our ward gave us. It's SO STINKING CUTE I just had to post a picture of it. :)

The name front: I'm hesitant to even include this section because we have not made any progress... mom still calls him Hamish. I have a grandpa that for the past 10 years has called me "Martha" (because apparently my bangs remind him of Martha Stewart's bangs...?), and I respond to it and it's all good... so whatever.

Other stuff: Last night I wrote a list of stuff that needs to happen before the baby comes... oh geez, it was a bit daunting. Oh well. :) I guess that's life in the fast lane!

Bryan made this blackberry cheesecake-bar concoction (all on his own!). It was yummy. He said I could brag about him on my blog ;).

  1. Laying stomach down on an electric massager is the best way to describe what baby's kickboxing sessions feel like. I could never figure out how to describe it! Also, that dessert looks amazing!

    1. Thanks! Sometimes it seems like it's so close and other times I'm like "holy cow this is taking forever". It's such a strange time warp... lol.
